Accommodation in Thailand: Thara Guesthouse

DATE STAYED: April 28, 2012 – May 2, 2012 (5d/4n)

THE RATE: 480 THB/day (For consistency’s sake, 30 THB is 43 PHP)

THE ADDRESS: 100-100/1 Phra Arthit Road, Chanasongkhram, Pranakorn, Bangkok, Thailand

THE FACILITIES:

Another recommendation from Pinoyexchange.com, Thara House is indeed one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest, accommodation near Khao San. I know because I asked several guesthouses/hotels in the area and Thara is by far the most affordable. It’s not along Khao San, which can both be a pro and a con. Its location is quiet enough to sleep soundly without hearing loud music (pro) and the walk from Thara to Khao San, albeit a not-so-short one (con), is a pleasure since there are sooo many stores and food stalls along the way (pro). Also, if you take the bus to go to the malls, you’d have to go thru Khao San. To return to Thara by bus, you’d have to go thru Khao San again.

I did not reserve a room and figured I’ll just book whatever is available. The first room given to us does not have any windows. It was the first room we had for the trip that did not have windows. Rooms without windows are cheaper. Since this is the last leg of our trip, I shelled out a few bucks to have us transfer to a room with windows.

What is inside our room? twin beds, aircon, tv, desk, chair, vanity table, dresser, trash can, and an en suite bathroom with hot and cold shower. There was no miniref.

Pros: Cheapest near Khao San. The corner room have big windows.

Cons: NO elevator and nobody will bring your bags to your room. NO free breakfast. NO miniref.

This is the first room given to us:

This is the room where we stayed:

THE VERDICT: 3/5

Will I stay here again? Maybe. I would choose a corner room with windows but I would not stay on the fifth floor again.
